A2. Determining the plant communities composition and structure

The purpose of this action is to conduct surveys to determine and describe the composition, the structure, and the ecological processes of juniper woodland communities on all Cretan sites. This will assist the development of a detailed strategy and specifications (action A.8) for the habitats conservation, restoration and management. Understanding the ecological processes within the habitat is the foundation for restoring its quality and quantity. There is no available data describing the composition, the structure and the ecological processes of this priority habitat in Greece. This survey will provide a basis for understanding the distribution, competitive interactions, successional relationships, and, ultimately, habitat composition.

This Action is completed, see the deliverable of  this action below.

Deliverable A.2.1: Report on plant associations, community types, composition and structure of coastal dunes with Juniperus spp. in Crete

Deliverable A.2.2: Maps of specific areas within the habitats in need of restoration
