E.3: Scientific Committee

The purpose of this action is to establish a scientific committee which will advise and evaluate the scientific quality of the work undertaken for this project. The Scientific Committee (SC) will be established with the participation of the Project manager (chair) and will include a number of external scientific experts listed below:
Members of the scientific committee:

  • Prof. P. Dimopoulos has been responsible for the identification and mapping of many Natura 2000 sites in Greece, is a member of the National Committee for Natura 2000 in Greece within Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Town Planning and Public Works and a member of the Greek delegation to the EU for Natura 2000 issues.
  • Dr L.F.Cassar Possesses profound knowledge and experience on sand dune habitats conservation and management in the Mediterranean and has worked for governmental and international organizations in Malta, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt in various aspects of sand dune conservation and management.
  • Dr Kerry Godfrey is Dean of Inverness College at the University of Highlands and Islands Business and Leisure faculty and will provide his expertise on tourism. His research background is on the concept of sustainability and its application to community development, natural and cultural resource management, as well as visitor impact management.
  • A representative from the Ayutamiento de Valencia who has experience on the restoration of Juniperus spp. sand dunes will also be invited to join the Committee. The Ayutamiento de Valencia has worked in the past with similar projects LIFE00 NAT/ES/007339 and LIFE04 NAT/ES/000044 in Spain.

The Scientific Committee (SC) will be implemented by the project manager at the beginning of the project. The members of the SC will be in continuous, informal contact with the project manager. The SC will hold meetings once a year to evaluate scientific quality of work and provide advice on further management of the project. The SC will meet out-of schedule in special cases, when significant issues arise. Moreover, every 3 months a formal electronic conference will take place for update reasons. Secretarial services will be provided as needed and charged on overheads.
